WHO IS LOUVI?
Miguel Ángel Portillo is a singer-songwriter based in New York, born in Caaguazú, Paraguay, and raised in Alicante, Spain, where he grew up surrounded by Spanish culture and music. Despite being a relatively small city, Alicante introduced him to local rappers, while MTV, which he watched every afternoon with his father, introduced him to American hip-hop, pop, and R&B. He also feels a strong connection to his Latin roots and embraced the fusion of cultures he grew up with.
At 15 he moved to New York City and in 2020 the pandemic left him stranded in the U.S. Changing his life forever, Growing up in Queens, he became immersed in New York’s history and culture while navigating the struggles of becoming an adult. He spent countless hours in his room writing as an outlet for everything he couldn’t say out loud.
Eventually, those pages turned into freestyle sessions over beats. What began as something he did only for himself became his way of creating art turning his “Low Vibes” into music. From that process came “louvi” a Spanglish nickname he chose to say the things Miguel wouldn’t normally say out loud.
What started as a way to express himself eventually became his identity.
